Heathrow Airport: Foreign Office travel tips for Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain, Egypt and more

International travel is slowly picking up and leisure travel from England is no longer illegal.

Different levels of restrictions are applied to travelers returning to England from abroad based on a traffic light system defined by the government’s Global Travel Taskforce.

Twelve countries are currently on the green list, including Portugal including the Azores and Madeira, Iceland, Gibraltar and Israel and New Zealand.

Travelers will still need to take a pre-departure test up to 72 hours before their return trip, and a single PCR test no later than the second day of arrival in England.

When traveling, remember that each country has different rules for tourists, and the Foreign Office updates its guidelines daily.

The government has not banned foreign travel, but it strongly advises against certain holidays, including all cruises.

He reminds travelers that each country will decide whether they require proof of Covid vaccination for entry, and it is the traveller’s responsibility to verify these requirements.

And you might be able to get a flight, but remember that for some countries the borders will be closed unless you’re a citizen – and even then you’ll have to spend time in quarantine.

With flights to Greece, Egypt, Italy, Spain, Portugal and more from Heathrow, here are the latest recommendations on visiting these popular destinations:

France

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) advises against all but essential travel throughout France, based on the current Covid-19 risk assessment.

Currently in France, a national curfew is in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., in which an attestation – a self-certified document – is required to leave the house.

There are no internal travel restrictions in France and non-essential outdoor shopping, culture and hospitality have now reopened.

France is on the orange list to enter England, so if you have been there you must take a Covid-19 test before you return, book and pay for the second and eighth days of travel tests to be taken after you arrive and complete a passenger locator form.

You must also quarantine yourself at home in the place where you are staying for 10 days.

Egypt

FCDO advises against travel to the North Sinai Governorate (to the Sharm el-Sheikh perimeter barrier). This is as much due to concerns about the terrorist attacks as it is to the coronavirus.

It also continues to advise against all but essential travel to the South Sinai Governorate beyond the Sharm el-Sheikh perimeter barrier, the area west of the Nile Valley and the Nile Delta regions to the exclusion of coastal areas between the Nile delta and Marsa Matrouh.

He also suggests not visiting any other part of Egypt, due to the risks of Covid-19.

Like France, Egypt is also on the Orange List for travel.

Greece

There are flights to Thesaloniki, Corfu, Mikonos and Athens from Heathrow.

FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Greece, but based on the current Covid-19 risk assessment. However, it makes exceptions for the popular tourist spots of Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete.

Greece is also on the Orange List for travel.

Italy

Airlines fly to Heathrow to destinations in Italy including Venice, Rome and Milan.

But as for France, the FCDO advises against any travel, except essential, in all regions of Italy.

Like Greece, Italy is on the Orange List for travel, so if you’ve been there you’ll need to take a Covid-19 test before you return, book and pay for day two and eight travel tests to take after your trip. arrival and complete a passenger locator form.

You must also quarantine yourself at home in the place where you are staying for ten days.

Portugal

Non-essential travel to Portugal from the UK resumed on May 17. Restrictions and entry requirements continue to apply, but there are flights from Heathrow to Faro and Lisbon.

All passengers, except children under the age of two, traveling to or through Portugal in transit, must present a negative RT-PCR test result for SARS / COVID-19 at the time of boarding.

The test must have been taken within 72 hours of departure. Your airline may deny boarding if you cannot provide it during check-in.

Portugal is on the green list to enter England, which means that if you have been there you must take a Covid-19 test before returning, book and pay for a Covid-19 test day to pass upon your return and complete a passenger locator form.

Spain

There are flights to Barcelona, ​​Parma Mallorca, Madrid, Malaga, Alicante and Ibiza from Heathrow.

However, FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic Islands.

The Canary Islands are, however, excluded from the list, based on the current coronavirus risk assessment.

Spain itself has banned tourists from entering the country and only those who are legal residents or traveling on essential business can go.

United Arab Emirates

Flights to Abu Dhabi and Dubai depart from Heathrow, but the FCDO currently advises against all but essential travel throughout the UAE, based on the current COVID-19 risk assessment.

He is on the Red List to enter England, which means that only UK or Irish nationals and those with UK residence rights can enter.

There are still dozens of flights to the United States from Heathrow, including those scheduled for New York, Texas, Chicago, Florida, Seattle and more.

However, FCDO advises against all but essential travel to the entire United States, although this does not count for the Northern Mariana Islands and the United States Virgin Islands.
